Weekend Adventures with The Out

After many Londoners have been perching on tiny balconies or running out to their shaded garden (trying to catch their one hour of sun), there is one thing that all of us will take from a global pandemic – the desire for the great outdoors. Finally lockdown restrictions are easing and it’s time to escape.
If you’re like us at SALKAN and pitching a tent in your garden doesn’t quite cut it, it’s now time to get out there and explore. We create high-quality backpacks that will suit any adventure and are perfect for exploring the great British countryside.
We teamed up with our friends at THE OUT and took a bunch of mates on a camping trip with a twist – no overcrowded campsites and boil-in-a-bag food here! We managed to get permission from a farmer to do some semi-wild camping and it all started with THE OUT. The rental was seamless. The Land Rover Discovery was delivered to our home address and we were on our way to battle the traffic before the Friday afternoon rush.
After arriving at our new home for the weekend in the Chew Valley, it was time to set up camp. The week at work soon feels forgotten when you’re navigating the tent poles and lighting an open fire for the feast to come.
Jack was in charge of the food and boy did he deliver! Taking the car means you can take more gear, so we had a full campfire set up for the first night where we roasted some cauliflower with some veggies and shared our stories of the week.
Jobs complete, it was time to relax, stoke the fire and tuck in to the barbecue with that all-important beer.
The next day, we packed our bags and headed off on a hike to explore the Chew Valley area; we wanted to find a spot where we could strip things back even more. We had prepared some Spicy Peanut Noodle sauce to take with us, so we could feed the tired legs. The pandemic felt a million miles away. You just can’t beat the fresh air of the great outdoors and earning that post-hike beer.
On the last day we headed back to the Land Rover where we could pack up and head home. Having that little bit of luxury to look forward to on the way back meant we weren’t fighting over who drove but who could get the back seat to have a little snooze.
We don’t judge our weekends on miles walked or summits achieved, we judge them on whether we are still thinking about the weekend come Monday morning.
