From September 1st 2020, we will be giving 1% of our sales to the planet. The planet we love to explore. It’s time that we gave something back.
It isn’t a one-off gift; we are now committed to giving our 1% for life.
We are looking forward to working with 1% For The Planet, and, for us, it’s only the beginning of our many environmental goals.
Before we set up Salkan, we read Patagonia’s The Responsible Company and it made us think just how important it is to be responsible at our core. As a company, we have a huge responsibility and, for us, becoming a member was always a goal.
Although 1% is small, it’s better than nothing, and it’s the start of something bigger.
What is 1% For The Planet?
It all started when two businessmen met and bonded over their shared love for the outdoors. (Sound familiar?) Realising their responsibility to protect our planet, they decided to give 1% of their sales back to the environment—whether or not they were profitable.
In 2002, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, created ‘1% For The Planet’ and started a global movement.

Start of Something Bigger
For us being a 1% member isn’t enough; we are always striving to be better. How we can make our products last longer and how we reduce our impact on the environment across everything we do is something we care very deeply about.
We pledge that when we continue to grow, we will always think of ways owe can improve and year on year we will become a more responsible company.
1% now has over 3000+ members and has contributed more than 265m back to the environment. That’s something exceptional and something we are now proud to be a part of.
A Natural Choice
We want everyone to see the world and get outside. That’s why we make the products that we make. Over the years we have gained so much from exploring and if we have nothing to explore because we didn’t care, then well, what’s the point?
It is only natural for us to help protect what we love and that’s why becoming a member was a no-brainer.
We must now choose who we will give our donation too, and we hope to announce this very soon.
